Typical Responsibilities: The successful candidate will perform software development and maintenance support for the Southern California Edison (SCE) Distribution Control and Monitoring System (DCMS), as they relate to the operation and control of an Electrical Utility Distribution Network. He/she will design, construct, test and implement new communication and user interface software as required to integrate new distribution automation devices and technologies with the SCE DCMS master. He/she will diagnose SCADA problems with installed field devices. He/she will maintain the DCMS relational and real time database for 15,000 installed devices. The successful candidate will also perform database updates for field device installations, relocations and removals. He/she will create and maintain DCMS triggers and database stored procedures for data reporting and alarming functions. He/she will maintain report generation software used for engineering planning and analysis. He/she will develop and maintain interfaces to external systems. This individual will proactively monitor SONET and DWDM network performance, identify performance issues, and work to correct those issues as needed to maintain high reliability and availability. The successful candidate will use and maintain operational support and network management systems to accurately track the status of ongoing issues and trends. Furthermore, this individual will develop periodic performance and trouble reports and provide reporting system status to management on a regular basis. This individual will be responsible for implementing and leading specialized technical projects and negotiating recommendations to management for the evaluation of new equipment as well as policy and procedures. Additional duties will include providing adjunct support to network engineers during periods of peak engineering activity and using existing network, performance and fault management systems and tools to collect performance data from network elements. This individual will also analyze performance data and identify any issues which indicate degrading performance which could impact network availability or transport quality. This includes assigning, tracking and monitoring the repair of network performance problems. This position will act as on-call duty during off hours on a rotational basis. The successful candidate will travel to field locations throughout the Edison Service Territory during the work day and during off hours including weekends to perform testing and upgrades to SONET and DWDM systems. This individual will also perform other duties as assigned.
