Summary: The Tribal Staff Attorney is a member of the Tribe’s unified Legal
The principal duty of the Tribal Staff Attorney is to provide in-house legal services to the Tribe.
The duties and obligations of the Tribal Staff Attorney are primarily governed by the Tribe’s
Unified Legal Department Act of 2015.
Employment Qualifications: A qualified candidate offers the following:
• J.D. Degree from an ABA-accredited law school; and
• one or more years of law practice experience with a law firm, legal department, non-profit,
or legal services organization; and
• a working knowledge of Federal Indian Law; and
• a current license to practice law in any U.S. state.
• If not licensed in Michigan, must obtain license to practice law in Michigan and in the Little
River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Court within six months of hire.
Pay Grade: E8
Hiring Range: $75,545 - $94,431
Status: Exempt; Contracted, Bi-Weekly pay

The ACLU of Maryland seeks a dynamic individual to join the Legal Department staff as Legal Program Assistant. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Maryland is a non-profit organization that defends the civil rights and civil liberties of Maryland's residents and visitors. Position Overview: The Legal Program Assistant, a position reporting to and working closely with the Legal Administrator, staffs our Civil Rights Complaint Line, responds to all intakes, investigates civil rights violations, provides paralegal support in cases, assists with our Know Your Rights trainings and Election Protection campaigns, provides secretarial support, and supervises interns and volunteers performing a variety of tasks.
Core Responsibilities: Intake and Complaint Line
Intern/Volunteer Program: Recruit, interview, hire, train and supervise interns and volunteers for administrative tasks, Complaint Line, and other legal program needs.
Case Development and Litigation Support: Factual investigation and client contact in select cases.
Campaign Support: Assist with Election Protection preparations and Election Day efforts. Assist with Know Your Rights campaign, training preparation, and follow-up.
Office Support: Assist with answering calls to main phone line. Maintain all legal files (cases, subject matter, etc.) and supervise all filing activity. Other duties as assigned by the Legal Program Administrator and Legal Director.

Tribal Attorney, including drafting, organizing and filing legal documents under
the supervision of a Legal professional or an Attorney. Duties require a clear
understanding and skill in handling legal and basic accounting and mathematics.
Graduation from a high school or equivalent with course work in general office
practices, and three (3) years of experience in an office, administrative, or
related support position for a legal office is required.
