Wisconsin Public Television seeks a chief engineer (CE) to perform highly technical, supervisory and visionary work in Madison, Wisconsin. The CE has responsibility for day-to-day technical operations of the Wisconsin Public Television production and remote facilities, including supervision of all engineering staff at the television production center and the WHA-TV DTV transmitter. This work requires the use of independent judgment working from broad institutional policies and general objectives.
The CE manages the human, physical, financial and operational activities of the engineering department, and is responsible for research, evaluation, procurement, testing, installation, training, operation and maintenance of all electronic equipment and systems for television production and broadcast transmission. With other senior managers, the CE develops, communicates and implements a vision for new services and technical resources.
Overall emphasis is on
(a.) planning and implementation of complex production systems which increasingly rely on advanced computer technology and applications and
(b.) guiding and supporting the evolution of WPT from traditional production and distribution systems to new and constantly-changing technology iterations.
Desirable to have:
· significant progressively responsible professional experience in television production engineering;
· ATSC broadcast transmission;
· SBE Certification.
Work includes day, night, weekend and holiday hours. The appointment requires a two-year probationary period. A criminal history records check will be conducted prior to appointment.
