POSITION SUMMARY: This individual is primarily responsible for substitute hosting live statewide call-in talk shows including The Joy Cardin Show, The Kathleen Dunn Show, and At Issue with Ben Merens. Hosting will involve moderating live call-in discussions about topics of statewide, national, and international importance. Fill-in work will occur, on average, 15 weeks of the year but coverage for extended absences could significantly increase time on air. When not on the air, this individual will be responsible for producing talk shows. This position reports to the Talk Director.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Keep current on issues of importance and interest to WPR listeners. 2. Host talk programming shifts for live call-in talk shows as assigned. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Radio, the Associate Director is the director of content and the chief operating officer and second in command for the statewide service of Wisconsin Public Radio and is responsible for overseeing administrative and content activities. Leads the approximately 50-member content staff of WPR's networks, programs and websites (including three nationally-distributed programs). This includes providing leadership to the WPR content planning team, and creating and instituting strategies consistent with the goals, best practices and editorial policies of WPR As a member of the Senior Management Team, assists the Director with long range strategic planning and implementation, policy development, organizational review, personnel planning and employee relations issues.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: § Serves as chief operating head for all day-to-day aspects of WPR. § Supervises Directors of News, Music, Talk and New Media Content, as well as the producing heads of WPR's national programs To the Best of Our Knowledge, Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know and Zorba Paster on Your Health. § Responsible for establishing and maintaining a professional, high quality and cohesive sound and brand. § Provides leadership in evaluating, developing, critiquing, selecting and scheduling programs and websites designed to serve significant audiences. § Provides a focus on content where Wisconsin Public Radio is uniquely strong, utilizing the intellectual and cultural resources of the University and the State, with a special emphasis on Wisconsin-related content. § Takes a lead role in reviewing and interpreting audience research from sources such as Arbitron, and initiate and manage WPR original research efforts and developing content responses to the information learned.
